Writing Assessment Plan

The purpose of my assessment plan is to evaluate pre-kindergarten students ability to convey thoughts through writing and drawing. This is not an extensive assessment plan, but a basic one.

Objectives:

1. The student will be able to draw pictures and copy letters and/or numbers to communicate.

2. The student will be able to use writing tools.

3. The student will be able to write for a variety of reasons.

4. The student will be able to write some letters of the alphabet.

Assessment for each objective:

1. After being read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the student will be asked to draw his/her favorite part of the story.

2. The student will be given a pencil to practice writing name.

3. The student will be asked to write/draw about what they did over the Thanksgiving Holiday break.

4. The student will write name on his/her paper.

Rubric for Assessments 1 and 3

0 - Makes abstract, stray marks all over paper. Dictation does not make sense for prompt.

1 - Makes abstract drawings, no letters, dictation makes sense.

2 - Makes basic drawings, forms some letters, dictation makes sense.

3 - Makes detailed drawings, forms some letters, dictation makes sense.

4 - Makes detailed drawings, forms some words, dictation makes sense.

Testing Constraints: Students must stay on topic. No off topic drawings/writing.
